This is a somewhat less known and less popular trend in Christianity for an approach to ministry. For some time I’ve felt God has called me as a missionary through business, called my entire family really. As we labor on as a business family, we have found that we have so much freedom to connect with each other and our neighbors and clients. Things are more natural as well when we do ministry day-to-day instead of necessarily as people “in ministry” in an official capacity.
For many years I’ve routinely felt I’m possibly neglecting my pastoral calling by doing ministry through business ownership life and lifestyle. When I’m still before the LORD however, I consistently get the answer that I’m right where God wants me.
Are you in a similar wrestle, friends? Have you considered the struggle in your soul may not have the answer of making a change vocationally but rather staying at it? Having a mission as a person, couple, and family is critical. I genuinely believe this. Having the Great Mission of making disciples of Jesus, starting with being His disciples… I genuinely believe this is more attainable consistently when we embrace “normal life” first. We may well step into roles with titles or even compensation in time for specific functions where maybe one or a few of us shine – think of Unsung Hero and their family’s music industry focus… But even that was a good example of Business As Mission.
Doing business with your family can be so fulfilling and special as you get more time together and others get to see you working together, working things out, laboring at life in productive and fruitful ways that bless one another and others.
Pretty cool for sure.
Much love, friends.
