We Behold Your Goodness

24 The LORD bless you and keep you; 25 the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

26 the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. – Numbers 6:24-26

My wife and I are more and more amazed by the simple pleasures and pursuits God has given His children in this life, and we are more and more certain we are most fulfilled when defined by two relationships: a satisfying fixation of love upon Jesus and a consistent care for those God places in our lives.

My wife is so beautiful to me.  I was just this morning enjoying an oldish prayer journal entry from her I found in a prayer journal I’ve been finishing up the use of from our shelf.  She was expressing all the way back toward the beginning of our marriage how God had so graciously guided her through various means but particularly through His Word and both of our visions from the Lord’s Spirit.

Vision is so important, to stay sensitive to God’s promptings and holy nudgings.  Yesterday I sensed the Lord reminding me to stay closer to His kind heart in day-to-day interactions.  We can become so mechanical and pragmatic (input & output) oriented in our relationships, especially with God.

It’s as though we simply are in this life to get and go.  What a wasteland and purely consumption orientation.

My prayer this morning for us who are leaning into God’s heart is that we would humble ourselves and seek God’s face in the steady vision of our humble Shepherd Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

He came among us and served us and then became a Lamb to be slain by God’s holy wrath, which we deserve!  See Isaiah 53 and the book of John, even if you feel you have this all figured out in your mind, because this is a heart thing, this fixation upon Jesus calling.

It hasn’t shaken from my heart that I believe God is bringing a revival to California through very unimpressive means… Humble Jesus followers consistently on their knees and then their feet, on their knees and then their feet, on our knees and then our feet, getting our hands and arms and backs and hearts into the labors and conversations and long-term relationships Jesus is directing us into moment-by-moment.
