This morning as I read the end of Ephesians and the start of Philippians, I sat and prayed and had a vision I believe was from the Lord. It was a bottle the size of a water tower that kept leaking toxic waste that was upsetting the town’s residents understandably. The bottle’s mouth was wrapped eventually to keep the toxic impact but the material used was money, actual cash, wrapped with rope and tape to keep the fluids in and to absorb any spilled toxic fluid.
Immediately I sensed the meaning of this vision at its deepest level to be us all, apart from Jesus, being toxic to one another and easily frustrating with all of our sin spilling out onto one another. What do we do but to throw money at our problems or at one another and mask the problem.
In the death of Jesus for our sin Jesus becomes this bottle. He became sin who knew no sin! This bottle becomes a Fountain of Living Water for all who believe!
Instead of being each other’s project to throw money at and hope we stop spilling sin on each other, we instead become a fragrant aroma of grace and see our sin dealt with at the cross and our life together as the body of Christ being a refreshment to those we encounter as Jesus pours us out throughout the community!
We are the light of the world in Jesus’ love, refreshing and ministering grace wherever God sends us!
Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. – Philippians 2:17
