“Therefore, as you receive Christ Jesus The Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” – Colossians 2
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked… but his delight is in the law/instruction of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers… for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” – Psalm 1
Today’s post will be brief but close to home for men in particular. Men today are called to many things by culture and those around them. What God calls men and women to is joyful obedience to the Word of God and full devotion to the Person of Jesus Christ in response to the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. We need a change in the expectations among men. We are not here, men, to fulfill culture’s expectations for us. We are not here to feel fulfilled in our gifting and sense of calling regarding our life’s work. We are here to lead and to love.
I highlight these two words because they are all through Scripture regarding men’s opportunity to stand up and lead godly lives in response to the love we experience from our Savior. Christ died on the cross for our sin. The least we can do is to live lives rooted and built up in Him. When change happens in communities, it takes all hands on deck, everyone’s participation. However, no one will fault a heart-devoted group of men seeking God together and leading their families and friends into that devotion. In fact, I would argue that this is essential. It is often the fruit, however, of their wives and moms and friends praying earnestly for these men to turn and face the living God, worship Him in Spirit and in truth, and grow roots into God’s Word and into genuine relationships and friendships.
What will it take for continued transformation to occur in Tuolumne County? Tons. But, wouldn’t it be an exciting movement of God to see men focusing on God together and leading and loving their families into the same?
Like I said, this is a short encouragement. We will have plenty of opportunities to see stories of men doing this. I look forward to highlighting this leadership and love among the men I am building friendship with here in Tuolumne County, down where my business is in Merced County, and in the even more broad global community of believers and the world. May God reveal story after story of godly seeking of God’s heart and living passionately devoted lives to this incredibly worthy Savior, Jesus Christ.
